The first 57 years of the NFL post-merger have been pretty neat. Damn shame I’ve only been able to see only 20 years of that. However… We have the technology to bring it back. Kind of.

In the past 5 years, I came across Football GM, a sports general management simulation game produced by Zen GM. It’s completely free, incredibly customizable, easy-to-understand, and web based. More importantly, it’s good fun. While playing the game was incredibly fun, I always thought it would be more to see the game evolve just like an actual sports league.

I’ve got a custom league all set up on my machine and ready to roll. Starting the league back in 1966 with an era-adjusted salary cap and more draft picks. As time progresses, I’ll be updating the league file as necessary with league expansion, scheduling, and roster sizes. The salary cap will automatically adjust itself based on the historical cap % increases in the NFL since the salary cap was introduced. Outside of the settings, I won’t have any direction control over any of the teams and their decisions. Draft picks, trades and players - who knows what’ll happen? Check here to stay up-to-date!
